GloNav Announce s Demonstration of Integrated Multimedia Applications Processor and A-GPS Platform Optimized for the Mobile Phone Market and LBS Applications with Core Logic Multimedia Platform

Platform offers fast time-to-market, while opening up new opportunities for multimedia enhanced LBS applications

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.,   Feb. 13, 2007 -- GloNav Inc., a fabless semiconductor company developing global positioning system (GPS) products for the cellular handset and mobile consumer electronics device markets, today announced that it has demonstrated the integration of host-based GPS technologies into a demonstration platform combining advanced multimedia and A-GPS capabilities for mobile phone applications with Core Logic.

Core Logic is a global leader in the development and commercialization of Camera Application Processor (CAP) and Image Signal Processor (ISP) products, the core element of camera phones and Multimedia Application Processor (MAP) products for leading-edge multimedia implementation on mobile phones.  

The demonstration platform provides the first example in the industry of a fully integrated multimedia plus A-GPS subsystem that simplifies integration into mobile phones for handset manufacturers, while providing a one-stop platform for developers of location based services (LBS) applications.

At the core of the platform are Core Logic' s Multimedia Applications Processor, featuring   ARM9 processor core and high performance multimedia functions , and GloNav's GNS4540 high-performance single chip L1 A-GPS solution, offering best-in-class acquisition and tracking sensitivity, time-to-first-fix (TTFF), accuracy and power consumption, together with Assisted-GPS operation on GSM, WCDMA and CDMA networks.

Key advantages of the integrated platform include fast time-to-market for handset manufacturers, compared to separately selecting and integrating a multimedia applications processor and A-GPS solution, and enabling LBS application developers to enhance their applications with advanced multimedia features, such as 3D mapping and video/image capture and playback, opening up a whole new arena for location enabled multimedia applications.
